Reward offered in Thanksgiving Day slaying

DETROIT, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- A $10,000 reward is being offered in the nationwide hunt for a suspect in a quadruple slaying in Florida who may be heading to Michigan, officials said.

Paul Michael Merhige, 35, is named in an arrest warrant in the shooting deaths of his pregnant sister, her twin sister, a female cousin and an aunt, who were killed as 17 people attended a Thanksgiving Day dinner in Jupiter, Fla., near Miami, The Detroit News reported Monday. Two other people were injured in the shooting that officials in Florida said stemmed from "ongoing resentment."

"He's still at large and we have contacted departments in cities -- including the Detroit area -- where he might be headed," said Jupiter Police Sgt. Scott Pascarella, adding that the reward was posted by the U.S. Marshal's Office.

Pascarella said nothing lately would indicate Merhige would travel to Michigan, but "in the past year he had attempted to get in touch with a physician" in the Detroit area.

Information about Merhige also was broadcast on the television program, "America's Most Wanted," Saturday night, Pascarella said.

"We believe he is still driving a royal blue 2007 Toyota Camry with rear spoiler and a Florida license plate and that he is to be considered armed and very dangerous," the police sergeant said.
