EBay to nix Roeder defense auction

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- The online auction house eBay says it will block attempts to raise money for the man charged with killing a Kansas abortion doctor.

EBay planned to remove items listed for the defense of Scott Roeder, the Kansas City man charged in the May 31 shooting death of George Tiller, a late-term abortion provider, said Jack Christin Jr., eBay's associate general counsel for government relations.

"We do not oppose all listings that raise money for legal defense

funds," Christin said. "However, our policy does not permit listings that benefit someone charged with or convicted of a crime."

Roeder's supporters have said Tiller's killing was justifiable homicide, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star reported Monday.

Items donated for auction included drawings by Roeder and a Bible with "all the pro-life passages highlighted," Dave Leach, a Roeder supporter and auction organizer, told The Star.
