Jailed serial killer charged with slaying

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A serial killer behind bars for the deaths of five Illinois children has been charged with the 1989 slaying of a Milwaukee woman, prosecutors say.

Lorenzo Fayne, 38, who is serving a life sentence for the slayings in Centerville, Ill., and the East St. Louis, Ill., area between 1989 and 1994, was charged Tuesday in the Sept. 15, 1989, sexual assault and killing of Rita Scott in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

The newspaper said Scott was found near a loading dock half-clothed with her head smashed in by chunks of concrete. Police reportedly determined Fayne was the assailant in May when they conducted a routine search of a national DNA data bank of convicted felons.

"We've all waited 20 years," Scott's mother, Mozella Scott of Milwaukee, told the Journal Sentinel. "We were very happy and relieved. Now my daughter can sleep in peace, I'm pretty sure."

Police said Fayne grew up in Milwaukee and lived there until age 18. His first known victim was 6-year-old Aree Hunt of Centerville, Ill., for whose 1989 death he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. He is now charged with killing Scott two months after Aree's slaying.
