PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The family of a Florida Holocaust survivor says they worry for her safety because she is being sued by a notorious 25-year-old Holocaust denier.
Eric Hunt, of Archbald, Pa. this month filed a $60 million libel suit in Broward Circuit Court against Irene Zisblatt, 80, of Pembroke Pines, Fla. Zisblatt is the author of "The Fifth Diamond," which recounts how she survived an extermination camp during World War II.
Hunt, in court documents, alleges the book is filled with "fantastical tales" that turn Jews into haters and torment Gentiles, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday.
In 2008, Hunt was convicted of battery and elder abuse against Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor and Nobel Prize winner. Hunt was sentenced to two years in prison but received credit for time served and good behavior,
Zisblatt's son-in-law, Stuart Mermelstein of Miami, called Hunt's lawsuit absurd and said he is concerned for Zisblatt's safety.
"This lunatic has assaulted a survivor in the past and is posing a danger to my mother-in-law simply for speaking out and writing a book," he said.
