NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A jury in St. Tammany Parish, La., has found James "Jamie" Magee guilty of killing his 28-year-old wife and 5-year-old son.
The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune said the jury found Magee, 32, guilty on two counts of first-degree murder Saturday in the April 2007 killing of his wife, Adrienne, and his son, Zach. The verdict came after the jury watched Magee's videotaped confession, the newspapder said.
Magee told authorities he fatally shot his estranged wife and son after she failed to return his phone calls.
"She wasn't calling me back, you know, and I know that sounds silly, but that's the way it is," he said.
Authorities said Magee used his vehicle to crash his wife's car into a tree and then fatally shot his wife and son with a shotgun, while also firing shotgun rounds at his two daughters, ages 7 and 8.
Magee's 8-year-old daughter, Ashleigh, was wounded. Her sister, Aleisha, 7, played dead and escaped injury, investigators said.
Magee could be sentenced to die by lethal injection or life in prison, the newspaper said.
