BAGHDAD, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Seven suspected Iraqi terrorists were arrested Sunday in and around Baghdad and the northern city of Mosul, officials said.
Iraqi security forces accompanied by U.S. advisers arrested a suspected member of al-Qaida in Iraq in Baghdad Saturday night, whom they accuse of operating a vehicle-borne improvised explosive network responsible for multiple vehicle bombings in April, Multi-National Force Iraq said in a release.
Two other people suspected of providing safe houses for al-Qaida members were also arrested near Balad Ruz, northeast of Baghdad, while Iraqi police also arrested three suspects in western Mosul as they were searching for an al-Qaida leader thought responsible for explosive devices in the city.
In eastern Mosul, Iraqi soldiers arrested a suspect while searching for the leader of an oil extortion network, MNF said. Intelligence reports indicated the suspect was tied to extortion-related assassinations.
