Body found in couple's burial plot

ALSIP, Ill., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A burial plot reserved for a couple in a scandal-plagued cemetery in Alsip, Ill., had another person's remains interred there, the couple's daughter says.

William and Lorraine Scott's daughter, Karla, said when cemetery workers were preparing to bury her father alongside her mother's grave at Burr Oak Cemetery last week, they discovered the second body, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday.

Cemetery manager Trudi Foushee said the Scott family was informed about the discovery of the remains ahead of time and were offered a discounted burial rate, but the Scotts' daughter insists she only learned about the discovery while traveling from Miami for her father's burial.

"All of this I found out at the very last minute," said Karla, whose father's body had been kept in storage for three months as the Illinois cemetery worked through a scandal. "I was already on my way here. I wasn't even given warning. It's a very awkward situation."

Burr Oak Cemetery was the focus of a corpse-dumping and grave-reselling investigation this year, the Sun-Times said. The investigation resulted in four former cemetery employees facing criminal charges.
