Colo. man indicted in terror case

DENVER, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S Justice Department says a 53-year-old Colorado man was indicted on charges of lying to authorities during a terrorism investigation.

U.S. Attorney David Gaouette said in a department release that Mohammed Zazi of Aurora was indicted in Denver Thursday for allegedly making a false statement in a matter involving international and domestic terrorism.

Zazi is accused of lying to FBI agents in September regarding whether he had had a phone discussion regarding terrorism allegations made against his son, Najibullah.

Authorities maintain that despite Zazi's claim he did not have such a conversation, he did discuss with an unidentified individual whether his son was in any trouble.

Najibullah Zazi is accused of planning terrorism attacks based on bomb-making instructions allegedly found on his laptop computer.

The Justice Department said if Mohammed Zazi, who was due in U.S. District Court in Denver Friday, is convicted on the false statement charges, he will face up to eight years in prison.
