WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Jordanian King Abdullah II said he was carrying the message to Washington that a two-state solution was the only viable option for Middle East peace.
The official Jordan News Agency, known also as Petra, said Abdullah arrived Tuesday in Washington to meet with foreign policy officials, lawmakers and Vice President Joe Biden.
During his meetings, the news agency said Abdullah said U.S. policymakers could bring peace to the region by supporting a two-state solution establishing an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, that could live peacefully alongside Israel.
"Jordan's higher interests are the top priority when it comes to discussing final status issues," he was quoted as saying.
"Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit is a demonstration of the deep and enduring bonds between the United States and Israel, and our close consultations on a range of security issues," the White House said Wednesday.
