BEIRUT, Lebanon, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Hezbollah said Monday a correspondent working for its al-Manar broadcast station died of wounds suffered in a terrorist attack in Beirut, Lebanon, last week.
Al-Manar, Hezbollah's broadcast station, said 52-year-old Abbas Karnib died after he was gravely wounded in a terrorist attack on the Haret Hreik neighborhood in southern Beirut. He was a veteran al-Manar correspondent with more than 20 years on the job, the report said.
The Daily Star, a Lebanese newspaper, reported Monday at least 75 people were wounded in last week's attack.
The Lebanese military said Sunday the suicide bomber was a Lebanese citizen known to have spent as much as three months battling the Syrian regime. Ali Ammar, a Hezbollah member of the Lebanese Parliament, said the bomber was a suspected member of al-Qaida, the Lebanese newspaper reported.
The Daily Star said Thursday's attack was the third in the area since July. Hezbollah strongholds have been the scene of violence since the Shiite movement admitted it had fighters in Syria supporting pro-government forces.
Al-Qaida is a predominately Sunni group.
