AMMAN, Jordan, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said Monday he submitted his country's credentials for a non-permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council.
Judeh requested a one-year term for his country in the council's Asia-Pacific bloc, the Jordan News Agency reported Monday.

Jordan deserves the seat, which it has held twice since joining the United Nations in 1955, Judeh said.
He said Jordan's decision came after Saudi Arabia turned down the interim seat last week.
A special election may be needed in the Asia-Pacific bloc to choose the replacement candidate if Jordan's bid is challenged, officials said.
