TEHRAN, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Iranian nuclear negotiators are working according to the principles outlined by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, a foreign ministry spokeswoman said Tuesday.
"The supreme leader has the last say and the negotiators of our country continue their work as they are supported by the Leader's guidelines and the people," a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman was quoted as saying by the semiofficial Fars News Agency.
Khamenei has voiced his opposition to nuclear weapons. He issued a religious edict in 2010 declaring the use, production and stockpiling of nuclear weapons was "a grave sin." The ruling cleric has the final say on Iranian matters.
Several rounds of talks this year between Iran and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany were described as amicable but resulted in few breakthroughs.
"The Islamic Republic has entered the negotiations with a political will to settle the issue and Iran's proposed plan for ending the deadlock is realistic and provides the interests of both sides based on a win-win game," the spokeswoman said.
Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency are scheduled to visit Iran later this month.
Iran is suspected of pursuing technology it could use to make a nuclear weapon, an allegation it denies.
