Iranian official says success in nuclear talks is up to West

TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- It's up to Western powers to show they're sincere about negotiating nuclear issues with Iran's new government, an Iranian foreign policy official said.

Mohammad Esmayeeli noted that talks involving the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, Germany and Iran begin in Geneva this week and told the Fars News Agency if the other countries "enter the scene with sincerity, we can expect logical results out of the talks."

Iran says it's committed to providing assurances its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes but said last week the right to enrich nuclear material wasn't up for debate.

Two rounds of nuclear negotiations in Kazakhstan this year were described as amicable but resulted in few breakthroughs.

New Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said there is no room for nuclear weapons in his administration.
