UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Iran hasn't responded to U.N. inquiries into its missile and weapons programs, members of a U.N. Security Council committee said.
The U.N. Security Council's sanctions committee said Iran "remained silent" on arms shipments seized in Yemen and ballistic missiles launched during military exercises last year. The U.N. Security Council said both incidents may have violated resolutions targeting Iran's military.
Australian Ambassador to the United Nations Gary Quinlan, chairman of the council, said Iran had an opportunity to respond to questions, but "unfortunately" didn't seize the opportunity last month.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani pledged to engage more with the international community when he took office last month. Samantha Power, the U.S. envoy to the United Nations, said there were few developments apart from Rouhani's rhetoric. She called recent developments "troubling."
Philippe Bertoux, the French envoy, said Iran, despite Rouhani's election, had continued on "a path of defiance rather than dialogue."
There was no statement to the council provided by the Iranian envoy to the United Nations. In terms of its controversial nuclear program, Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi was quoted by Iranian broadcaster Press TV as saying Iran was "ready to resolve the nuclear issue in a win-win manner."
