BEIRUT, Lebanon, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Lebanese President Michel Suleiman Thursday urged the military to investigate thoroughly a border incident that left Israeli soldiers injured.

Four Israeli soldiers were injured Wednesday the blast when they crossed the Lebanese border. The incident occurred near a surveillance post monitored by the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, a peacekeeping force monitoring the border.

Suleiman said Wednesday's incident was "yet another" violation by the Israeli side of U.N. resolutions pertaining to Lebanese sovereignty.

He said in a statement published Thursday by The Daily Star the military is called on to "expand its ongoing investigation in order to create a complete file into what happened ... when the Israeli enemy infiltrated."

UNIFIL said it opened an investigation into the alleged violation of the resolution ending a 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

"Our effort is to ascertain if any traces of a possible explosion or other activity can be identified on the ground," the mission stated Wednesday.

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon was quoted by The Jerusalem Post as saying Israeli forces went over "an explosive device" near the border. He said the Israeli side was working to determine if the device was "old or new."
