SEOUL, July 30 (UPI) -- South Korea and the United States will work together to keep the pressure on North Korea, the South Korean Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
U.S. Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen met Tuesday in Seoul with South Korean officials to discuss ways to curtail North Korea's nuclear ambitions.
South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Tai-young said they'd work to contain North Korea through economic and regional efforts.
"They agreed to further strengthen cooperation with China down the road," he was quoted as saying Tuesday by the Yonhap News Agency.
The Chinese government has expressed frustration with North Korean efforts to further develop its nuclear weapons program. Regional concerns escalated this year when North Korea conducted an underground nuclear test, its third since 2009.
A source in the South Korean government was quoted by Yonhap as saying it "maintains the policy stance that it will use both talks and pressure in order to induce changes from the North."
China's vice president visited Pyongyang to take part on ceremonies marking the 1950s armistice agreement halting the Korean War. China sided with the North during the conflict.
