BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The Kyrgyz government called on the Commonwealth of Independent States to help have a brother of the former president returned to face murder charges.

Zhanybek Bakiyev, brother of the former president, is wanted on charges he played a role in the death of former presidential advisers and an assistant. Members of the administration are suspected of ordering police to fire on demonstrators during the uprising.

The government in the former Soviet republic called on the CIS "to consider the possibility of assisting in the fulfillment of obligations" on the part of Belarus in the extradition of Zhanybek Bakiyev, reports Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

Bishkek recalled its ambassador from Minsk last week after pictures of the former president's brother in public in Belarus were circulated on the Internet, the report adds.
