Egypt's PM Mohamed Morsi weighs Cabinet options

CAIRO, July 30 (UPI) -- The Egyptian prime minister's office said candidates for the first post-revolutionary Cabinet were presented Monday to President Mohamed Morsi.

Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil made early moves on Cabinet decisions after he was called on to form a new government by Morsi last week.

Kandil, reported Egyptian news service al-Ahram, met with the president Monday to turn in his candidates for the new Cabinet. An announcement is expected Thursday.

Some lawmakers in the Egyptian government have expressed frustration with the direction of the political system since Hosni Mubarak's administration was toppled by revolution in early 2011.

Islamist parties like the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party dominate the landscape. Morsi resigned as the chairman of FJP after his June victory. Kandil, a former irrigation minister, has no affiliation with any particular political party of religious group.

The country's military retains considerable dominance over Egyptian political affairs.
