THE HAGUE, Netherlands, June 25 (UPI) -- The International Criminal Court said it "deeply regrets" incidents that may have upset Libyan authorities during its national investigations.
Four members of the ICC are detained in Libya following their visit with Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, son of late leader Moammar Gadhafi. Melinda Taylor, a member of the ICC team, was alleged to have passed sensitive documents over to Saif al-Islam from one of his allies.
ICC President Song Sang-hyun met with Libyan Attorney General Abdelaziz al-Hassadi in The Hague to discuss the situation.
"The ICC deeply regrets any events that may have given rise to concerns on the part of the Libyan authorities," a statement read. "In carrying out its functions, the Court has no intention of doing anything that would undermine the national security of Libya."
Tripoli had requested a formal apology for the incident. Saif al-Islam is wanted by the ICC for crimes committed during last year's civil war. Tripoli maintains it has the ability to conduct an independent trial.
"The ICC fully understands the importance of the matter for the Libyan authorities and the people of Libya," the international court said.
Taylor's colleagues were told they were free to go but chose to stay with her in a show of solidarity.
