WASHINGTON, March 2 (UPI) -- A Bible given to U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., seven years ago in North Korea is headed to Seoul in the hands of a South Korean legislator.
Wilson received the Bible and a hymnal, both printed in Korean, on a congressional trip to North Korea headed by former U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa. They asked to attend a church service and their hosts obliged.
Wilson said that the few congregants left quickly at the end of the service but that the choir was magnificent.
"I think it was their national choir," he said.
He presented the Bible and hymnal to Korean National Assemblywoman Shin Nak-yun at a forum Thursday on Capitol Hill. Shin was attending a forum on multi-faith engagement and Track II diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula with Korean Buddhist and Christian leaders engaged in humanitarian aid for North Korea.
Wilson was a congressional co-chair of the forum together with Delegate Eni Faleomavaega, D-American Samoa, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Asia and Pacific subcommittee.
The Global Peace Festival Foundation, one of the co-sponsors of the forum, is founded by Hyun Jin Moon who is also chairman of News World Communications, which owns UPI.
