JUBA, South Sudan, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is a warmonger intent on shifting focus away from his own domestic problems, a South Sudanese general said.
Last week, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said the information she's seen suggests the alleged Sudanese bombing of a refugee camp in South Sudan may be categorized as an international crime.
South Sudan became an independent state in July as part of a comprehensive peace agreement reached in 2005. Border conflicts, ethnic disputes and oil-sharing issues threaten to unravel the peace deal, however.
South Sudanese Maj. Gen. Mangar Buong told the BBC that Khartoum wasn't interested in peaceful relations, however.
"Omar al-Bashir believes only in war," he said. "He has problems in the north so he is trying to shift this to South Sudan to cover his weakness in his own country."
Khartoum claims its dealing with a rebel moving along the border between both countries and denies the bombing allegations. Bashir is wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court for his role in the genocide in Darfur.
