LEIDSCHENDAM, Netherlands, July 29 (UPI) -- Beirut has until Aug. 11 to report on progress toward carrying out arrest warrants for those wanted in the assassination of Rafik Hariri, a tribunal said.
The U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon released the names of the four individuals wanted for the 2005 killing of Hariri, a former prime minister of Lebanon. They are: Salim Jamil Ayyash, Mustafa Amine Badreddine, Hussein Hassan Ainessi and Assad Hassan Sabra.
Those names match information leaked to The Daily Star newspaper in Lebanon shortly after the sealed indictment was announced in June.
Badreddine was identified as the brother-in-law of Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh, who was killed in 2008. The newspaper named Sabra and Ainessi as the two other Hezbollah figures but had no background information.
Tribunal officials said they were releasing the names to facilitate their arrest. Interpol issued a Red Notice for the four suspects but had withheld the names.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, who described STL as part of an Israeli plot, ruled out the arrest of Hezbollah suspects wanted for the 2005 bombing attack that killed Hariri and 21 others.
The tribunal gave Beirut an Aug. 11 deadline to report on progress made in carrying out the arrest warrants.
"The Lebanese authorities have an ongoing responsibility to arrest, detain and transfer the accused," the tribunal said in a statement.
