Mubarak-era ministers face accusations

CAIRO, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Judicial authorities accused Egyptian Justice Minister Mamdouh Marie of interfering with legal affairs in the country, sources said Monday.

Marie is the latest in a growing list of members of Hosni Mubarak's government facing prosecution. Mubarak resigned Feb. 11 following weeks of anti-government protests.

Marie was one of the last remaining members of the Mubarak regime who held office in the military-controlled government. Judicial authorities told Egyptian daily newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm that he is accused of interfering in litigation that would benefit former officials.

Military authorities froze the financial assets of the former Egyptian president and his family members and imposed a travel ban on them Monday.

The freeze on assets inside Egypt and the travel ban were taken after the prosecutor's office received complaints about Mubarak's wealth.

Military authorities said they would have elections in the country within six months. The Muslim Brotherhood, the main reform movement, is forming a political party but said it wasn't fielding a candidate for president.
