VIENNA, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- The nuclear energy program under development in the United Arab Emirates falls under guidelines set by the IAEA, the regulatory agency declared.
The International Atomic Agency, the United Nations' nuclear watchdog, said it carried out an integrated nuclear infrastructure review in the United Arab Emirates and found the country understands the responsibilities associated with a civilian nuclear energy program.
Hamad al-Kaabi, the United Arab Emirates' special envoy to the IAEA, said the assessment by the regulatory agency reflects his country's commitments to its international obligations.
"We are open, we are transparent, we are developing a peaceful nuclear program with the highest international standards," he said in a statement. "And we are eager to continue in our cooperation with the IAEA and follow its guidance."
Jong Kyun Park, the director of the nuclear power division at the IAEA, said he didn't see any gaps in the United Arab Emirates' nuclear program.
"The team concluded that the development of the United Arab Emirates' nuclear infrastructure is progressing well and in line with the IAEA´s guidelines," he said in a statement.
