LONDON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- London is reviewing military plans to extract its citizens from the United Arab Emirates should war break out with Iran, documents revealed.
Millions of British tourists visit Dubai each year and the expatriate population has grown by more than 100,000 since the 1990s. Defense plans from Prime Minister David Cameron outline the risks to British citizens in the gulf should Iran retaliate against strikes on its nuclear installations, London's Telegraph newspaper reports, citing sensitive documents.
The Telegraph reports the Cameron administration will sign off on military extraction plans in 2011 when the prime minister is planning to visit Dubai.
Sensitive U.S. diplomatic cables leaked to WikiLeaks and published by London's Guardian newspaper reveal that Mohammed bin Zayed, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, pressed for tougher sanctions on Iran this year.
The military cooperation plan is expected to include plans to support Emirati infrastructure should war break out in the gulf.
Tehran, meanwhile, said it was contemplating cutting ties with London following remarks on Iran's human rights record by the British envoy to the Islamic republic.
