VIENNA, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Iran still hasn't verified to the international community that its nuclear program is peaceful, the top U.N. nuclear watchdog official warned.

Iran this week announced that it inserted fuel rods into the central reactor at the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Uranium enrichment, the country said, was ongoing despite allegations that the Stuxnet computer worm disrupted nuclear activity.

Yukiya Amano in his latest letter to the board of governors at the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna said Iran has yet to come clean on its nuclear program.

Iran, he said, wasn't meetings its international verification obligations, "which are essential to building confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program."

He welcomed upcoming talks between Iran and members of the U.N. Security Council but said Tehran needs to do much more to clarify issues related to "possible military dimensions to its nuclear program."

Iran insists it is operating according to the principles outlined in the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, accusing the IAEA of having a double standard when it comes to the nuclear issue.
