"Serbia and Interpol have enjoyed great co-operation in locating fugitives wanted for ordinary crimes, so we are now asking Interpol's assistance in helping to locate fugitives wanted in connection with the very serious offense of war crimes," the Serbian minister said in a statement.

Ratko Mladic, the Bosnian Serb general who led the Scorpions paramilitary force, remains at large 15 years after the massacre at Srebrenica.

Bosnia Serb forces took control over a U.N. safe area in Srebrenica on July 11, 1995, later killing at least 7,000 Bosnian men and boys.

Interpol Secretary-General Ronald Noble said in his statement that his police force would issue an alert to all 188 member countries asking for "special measures to help Serbia in locating war crimes fugitives in order that they can be brought to justice."

War crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic said in July he would bring the former military commander to justice, vowing to "smoke Mladic out of his hole."

Vukcevic mentioned the same kind of intense work when referencing the case of Goran Hadzic, a former Serbian political leader in Croatia, also a fugitive wanted by The Hague.
