BAGHDAD, April 23 (UPI) -- At least 58 people were killed and more than 100 wounded in a series of bomb attacks in Baghdad.

The bombs targeted busy Shiite neighborhoods, including areas close to mosques where worshipers gathered for Friday prayers, the Financial Times reports.

They exploded hours after seven people were killed and at least 10 wounded in a series of bomb blasts in western Iraq's Anbar province, a region dominated by Sunnis.

The attacks come a few days after three senior al-Qaida members were killed by Iraqi and U.S. forces, in a development U.S. officials have lauded a key success in the fight against the insurgency in Iraq.
