ISTANBUL, Turkey, April 13 (UPI) -- A U.S.-Turkish-Iraqi security committee drafted an "action plan" to fight the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party.
The fifth meeting of the multinational committee was Sunday in Istanbul, a statement by the U.S. Embassy in Ankara said. Delegates from the three nations agreed on an action plan to fight the Kurdistan Workers' Party, referred to as the PPK.
"The Trilateral Action Plan sets out the guidelines for the future work of the committee and contains the actions that should be taken to facilitate joint efforts against the PKK," the embassy statement reads. "Participants have expressed their commitment to rapidly work on the implementation of the trilateral action plan."
Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay, Iraqi State Minister for National Security Shirvan al-Waili and U.S. Marines Maj. Gen. Joseph Anderson led the talks, the statement reveals.
The trilateral security committee was launched in Iraq in 2008 to fight the PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and several other nations.
