ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A U.N. team examining the circumstances surrounding the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto wrapped up its second trip to Pakistan.
An independent commission led by Heraldo Munoz, the Chilean envoy to the United Nations, met with Pakistani citizens and officials to gather evidence and material related to their investigation, the U.N. news agency reports.
A three-member team visited the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi in July where Bhutto was assassinated in December 2007.
A high court in Lahore last month called on former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf to hand over information on a case against him in connection with the Bhutto assassination, Pakistan's Dawn newspaper said.
Dawn reports that Bhutto was wary of Musharraf as she attempted to return to power in Pakistan. Bhutto was assassinated following a campaign rally for her Pakistan People's Party in the run-up to the January 2008 parliamentary elections.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Bhutto's widower, met on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York last month to discuss the independent commission.
Ban said he expects the commission to submit a report within six months.
