Chatham House to host new defense forum

LONDON, June 9 (UPI) -- The London-based Chatham House has launched a new forum designed to address issues concerning the policies and strategies of European security and defense.

Chatham House, a non-governmental current-affairs analysis organization, announced the new European Security and Defense Forum is part of an effort to discuss the European Union's Security Policy and European Security Strategy.

Officials say the forum will include defense contractor Finmeccanica and will also enlist support of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, a think tank based in Italy.

The forum, which will include workshops and an annual conference, is also part of an effort to discuss Europe's trans-Atlantic security ties and NATO among other international security challenges.

"The European Security and Defense Forum will analyze the shifts and developments in European security and defense policies and will allow us to offer a better understanding of Europe's strategic relationship with the United States," Paul Cornish, head of the Chatham House International Security Program and Carrington Chair in International Security, said in a statement.
