Ban addressed the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on Tuesday and said that global interdependency requires a multilateral approach to achieve progress on disarmament.

"We live in an age of interdependence … (where) cooperation replaces confrontation, where creativity replaces stalemate," Ban said, according to the United Nations.

Ban called for a "global partnership that can weave ... disparate threads into comprehensive political agreements," according to a transcript of the secretary-general's remarks.
