HERMISTON, Ore., May 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency said it has begun an investigation following the detection of mustard chemical-agent vapor at a facility in Oregon.
The agency reported Wednesday that a monitoring crew at the Umatilla Chemical Depot in Oregon detected trace amounts of mustard chemical-agent vapor during routine monitoring.
According to a news release, the Umatilla facility is equipped with filtration infrastructure in order to prevent the harmful vapor from reaching outside but as a precautionary measure has installed a "powered filtration system."
Officials said the reading of the vapor levels was too low to be harmful. An investigation into the cause of the vapor leak is under way.
