VIENNA, April 30 (UPI) -- The United Nations announced Thursday it plans to hold a peacekeeping training course in Austria to support ongoing missions around the world.
The U.N. course, expected to take place at the Austrian National Defense Academy in Vienna at the beginning of May, marks the first time Austria has hosted a peacekeeping training operation, the United Nations reported.
According to a release the two-week Senior Mission Leader Course will offer participants training in military, police and civilian international peace operations. The course will additionally focus on the rule of law and adherence to international laws to protect civilians.
"Austria has a distinguished history of contribution to U.N. peacekeeping," the U.N. Information Service in Vienna said.
