SKOPJE, Macedonia, April 10 (UPI) -- The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe backed a workshop held Friday in Macedonia to strengthen the prosecution of organized-crime cases.
The workshop, held in the southwestern Macedonian city of Bitola, offered training for judges and prosecutors to strengthen capabilities when prosecuting cases involving transnational criminal groups and other organized crime.
The workshop was initiated by the Macedonia-based All for Fair Trials Coalition and is expected to be the first in a series of workshops supporting better monitoring of illicit trafficking and organized-crime cases.
"The recommendations provide excellent guidelines for further action and engagement on behalf of the judiciary in improving their role in the fight against organized crime in the country," Lisa Tilney, head of the Rule of Law Department of the OSCE mission to Skopje, said in a statement.
