ANKARA, Turkey, March 11 (UPI) -- The Turkish commitment to international counterterrorism efforts and information sharing is commendable, Interpol officials said.

Interpol Secretary-General Ronald Noble met with Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek in Ankara to discuss global law enforcement and the international effort against terrorism, Interpol said in a briefing.

Noble offered praise for suggestions offered by Ankara to host a conference on terrorism and for its broader support of the rule of law.

"Turkey's offer to host an international meeting on terrorism is welcome and also underlines their commitment to encouraging the widest possible sharing of information and expertise to fight this type of crime," he said.

The secretary-general added that his talks with Turkish officials showed Ankara's continued support for the activity of the international police force.

"The discussions I have had with the deputy prime minister and the director general of the Turkish national police have shown that Turkey is clearly committed to playing its full part in supporting global law enforcement activities through Interpol," Noble added.
