DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Top leaders of Tajikistan recently met with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to discuss strengthening border security.
More than 50 OSCE officials met with Tajik government and civil society leaders for an OSCE-Tajikistan Task Force meeting. At the top of the meeting's agenda were discussions on strengthening border security and combating the trafficking of illicit goods through Central Asia by transnational criminal groups.
Officials say the meeting, which marked the third for the OSCE-Tajikistan Task Force, also addressed promoting economic development, strengthening policy and practices on human rights and the role Tajikistan plays in the region, the OSCE reported.
"This meeting shows the strong relations between the OSCE and Tajikistan in promoting regional stability and security," Herbert Salber, OSCE Secretariat Conflict Prevention Center director, said in a statement.
