KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A training workshop will be conducted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo aimed at rebuilding the country's military justice system.
The U.N.-based training course, being held in Congo's capital, Kinshasa, is expected to bring together personnel from the country's military to review international humanitarian laws and other military practices acceptable to the international community in a move to rebuild the military justice system, the United Nations reported.
Officials said the training of approximately 600 armed forces officials in Congo is part of an effort to counter the ongoing instability in the country and address rebel threats with international humanitarian standards that prohibit things like torture and sexual abuse.
The workshop, one of several scheduled in Congo through June, is "aimed at promoting greater communication to all involved in the military legal structure," a U.N. news release said.
