Security tops agenda for OSCE meeting

VIENNA, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Top authorities from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe are expected to discuss security arrangements as part of the OSCE winter meeting.

The OSCE Thursday will host its annual winter meeting in Vienna, Austria, where the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will discuss security in Europe and other top priorities for the multinational organization, the OSCE reported.

Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis, OSCE chairperson-in-office, along with other top authorities including Alexander Grushko, Russian deputy minister of foreign affairs, and Veronique Bujon-Barre, French deputy director for political and security affairs, is expected to address more than 270 parliamentarians.

Officials say the winter meeting, one of the largest events in the OSCE calendar, also will focus on the evolving threat of piracy off the coast of Somalia and the "initiatives by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and French President Nicolas Sarkozy for new European security arrangements," the release said.
