BRUSSELS, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- A top NATO official has received an award recognizing integration of network-centric operations that have saved lives in conflict zones like Afghanistan.
Dag Wilhelmsen, general manager of the NATO Consultation, Command and Control, recently was honored with the Arthur K. Cebrowski Award by the Institute for Defense and Government Advancement Network Centric Warfare, NATO reported.
The Cebrowski Award, which recognizes people who have advanced the development of net-centric operations, was presented to Wilhelmsen for his integration of net-centric capabilities for NATO that has reduced casualties during deployments.
Officials say Wilhelmsen was integral in implementing next-generation information-sharing capabilities including friendly force tracking and transfer of data from unmanned aerial vehicles.
"Successful network-enabled operations are all about teamwork, and it is the entire NATO community that achieved this, with a key role played by Allied Command Transformation," Wilhelmsen said in a statement.
