Coast Guard opens new intelligence post

ALAMEDA, Calif., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A new intelligence unit was commissioned Tuesday by the U.S. Coast Guard to support evolving maritime intelligence and situational awareness requirements.

The new unit is located at the Coast Guard island facilities between Oakland and Alameda, Calif. Coast Guard officials established the new unit, called the Maritime Intelligence Fusion Center Pacific, as part of a modernization initiative.

MIFC PAC, with a staff of almost 100 active duty Coast Guard members, reservists and civilians, will be expected to provide intelligence in support of operational decision-making and mission execution.

"The staff of MIFC PAC will be committed to developing and delivering timely, actionable, multi-mission maritime intelligence and situational awareness," the release said.
