TSA names new security head for West Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The Transportation Security Administration announced the appointment of a new director of security for the West Texas region.

TSA officials say 30-year Air Force veteran John Sides will become the new federal security director for the West Texas region. Sides, who since 2002 was head of security at Tucson International Airport, will now direct TSA security operations at the three international and two regional airports in the West Texas region.

Sides has supported TSA operations since the agency was created after retiring as the vice commander of the National Air and Space Intelligence Center in Ohio.

"Col. Sides will be a tremendous asset to the West Texas region," Lee Kair, TSA assistant administrator, Office of Security Operations, said in a statement.

"Col. Sides has been with TSA since its inception and has helped develop the agency into a robust and dynamic organization."
