Disaster exercise held in Kosovo

PRISTINA, Kosovo, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- The NATO Multinational Task Force North recently concluded a security simulation in Kosovo testing emergency response to a major national disaster.

The disaster simulation of a catastrophic earthquake hitting northern Kosovo, which involved participants from the Multinational Task Force North who paired with top civilian authorities in the region, was the first emergency response exercise of its kind in Kosovo, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization reported.

The multi-week simulation was designed to test the emergency response capabilities of the Multinational Task Force North to effectively manage risk assessment, security and communication.

Despite what NATO officials called a successful exercise, the "weak participation" from Serbian municipalities was criticized.
