BAGHDAD, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The U.N. high commissioner for refugees arrived in Baghdad Tuesday for a three-day visit to review the work of the Iraq mission.
Antonio Guterres kicked off a three-day tour of Iraq, where he plans to meet with top officials with the central government in Baghdad, the Office of the UNHCR said in a release.
Guterres also plans to review the work of Iraqi and international aid agencies working to protect internally displaced persons in the country.
The visit is the third by the high commissioner since mid-2007. His itinerary includes field visits to develop plans for improvements for the internally displaced, as well as plans to secure the return of other refugees to Iraq.
The United Nations estimates there are as many as 2 million internally displaced Iraqis. Data from host countries put the total estimate of Iraqi refugees living outside the country near 2 million as well.
