Philippines police target war on terror

KALIBO, Philippines, April 21 (UPI) -- The head of the Philippines National Police says cooperation in the fight against terrorism would result in lasting peace and economic growth.

Philippines Police Director General Avelino Razon, speaking to an audience at the Kalibo-based Provincial Peace and Order Council, said the Philippines National Police are fully committed to pursuing the war against crime and terrorism. Razon said that the Philippines could achieve lasting peace and sustained economic and social progress with continued cooperation between government and non-government agencies to fight terrorism, the Philippines government reported.

"The PPOC has served as an important venue for inter-agency and a multi-sector approach to all our efforts towards peace and order," Razon said in a statement. "By sharing information, merging resources and promoting collaborative effort, we keep one step ahead from those who break the law.

"We in the PNP know very well that to prevent and control crime, we must forge ties with other sectors ... we must sustain the momentum of economic growth and resist any move by criminal terrorists and lawless elements to hinder the further development."
