Coalition forces nab four in Taliban raid

KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- An operation by coalition forces in Afghanistan working on intelligence on Taliban militant whereabouts resulted in the detention of four suspected insurgents.

Officials say the operation targeted suspected Taliban compounds in Afghanistan's Zabul province in an effort to disrupt Taliban leadership networks. Troops searched the compounds in the Qalat district after intelligence led coalition forces to what was believed to be a Taliban leader linked to anti-government operations in the area, the Combined Joint Task Force-82 reported.

"Coalition forces are systematically depleting the Taliban's cadre of experienced leaders to the benefit of the Afghan people and the positive progress of Afghanistan," Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a coalition forces spokesman, said in a statement.

Coalition forces recently uncovered several weapons caches in Nangarhar province's Kot and Khogyani sectors that included a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, grenade rounds, grenade boosters along with anti-personnel mines and other munitions.
