Taliban recruiting operations disrupted

BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Coalition and Afghan forces led a raid in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province Monday and disrupted an alleged active Taliban recruiting operation.

Officials say intelligence led troops to several compounds in the Deh Yak district of the province where the Taliban recruiting operation was allegedly taking place. In one of the compounds three individuals suspected to be militant recruiting facilitators were detained, Combined Joint Task Force 82 reported.

Additionally, while searching another compound in the raid two militants engaged troops with small-arms fire and upon return fire were killed.

“Afghan and coalition forces made significant strides to disrupt militant operations aimed at recruiting young Afghan males into an extremist organization of false promises, suicide bombers and terrorism,” Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force 82 spokesman, said in a statement.

Officials say the suspected Taliban recruitment facilitators are being questioned about the alleged Taliban recruiting networks among other extremist activities. The operations also uncovered several weapons that coalition and Afghan forces confiscated.
