3 police officers killed in Pakistan

TALAGANG, Pakistan, April 25 (UPI) -- Three police officers were killed and a fourth was wounded in an attack on a convoy of NATO oil tankers near Talagang, Pakistan, authorities said.

Attackers opened fire on the convoy Saturday, destroying at least six tankers carrying supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan, Dawn reported Sunday. Drivers sped away in six other tankers, sparing them from destruction, officials said.

Citing sources, Dawn said the attack was carried out by about 30 armed men riding in three jeeps. They fired at the tankers as the vehicles were parked at a refueling pump -- setting off a fire that spread to nearby shops, the report said.

The attackers exchanged gunfire with officers in a police patrol that arrived at the scene, killing two officers and injuring two others. One of the wounded officers subsequently died.

Firefighters were still trying to put out the fires late Saturday, the report said.
