LONDON, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Most people in Great Britain oppose the war in Afghanistan and say they believe the deployment of military forces was a mistake, a poll indicated.
More than half of British respondents, 55 percent, said they believe Great Britain made a mistake in sending military forces to Afghanistan, and 52 percent said they opposed the war there, an Angus Reid Public Opinion poll said Monday.
The online survey of a representative national sample of 2,002 British adults, conducted Feb. 16-17, found 53 percent of Britons say they have a clear idea of what the war in Afghanistan is about.
A majority of respondents, 55 percent, said they are not too confident or not confident at all that the Obama administration will be able to "finish the job" in Afghanistan, while only one third of Britons, 34 percent, are very or moderately confident, the poll revealed.
When polled about the British-run media outlets' coverage of the Afghan war, 54 percent say the United Kingdom has provided the right amount of reporting while 21 percent contend there has been too much.
Only 29 percent of Britons say they think the government has given them the correct amount of information on the war in Afghanistan. Almost half, 47 percent, say they have received too little information.
The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
