Girl Scout manager charged with stealing $10,000 in cookie money

Tarra Kopp-Headley, the leader of a Toledo, Ohio, Girl Scouts troop was arrested for grand theft last week after she reportedly stole over $10,000 of cookie money.

Kopp, 32, was supposed to turn in $10,285 raised by her troop from selling cookies. She failed to turn in the money and gave multiple excuses as to why.

"It was a large amount and it's something that we don't take lightly," said Girl Scouts Spokesperson Shonna King. "And after several attempts to recoup that money and resolve the situation with the leader...we had to take the next appropriate steps."

When authorities were investigating the incident they discovered Kopp also made cash withdrawals and wrote checks from the troop's checking account between Dec, 2012 and April 2013 for a total of $11,986.

"Not only does this take money away from the troop, but it takes away money that they can use for their different activities, and it also takes away money that's going back in the community for girls," King said.

Kopp was booked in the Lucas County Jail, but was released Friday on a $5,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court next Friday.
